The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has announced that nominations are open for the second year of its One To Watch Award.

The BEVA One To Watch Award is aimed at equine vets who have graduated within the last seven years and who are making waves within the industry through their clinical skills, their passion for equine welfare or their strong leadership abilities.

“The BEVA One To Watch Award is about recognising those future leaders early and celebrating the incredible contribution they’re already making to equine practice,” said BEVA Council Member Gemma Dransfield, who helped establish the award.

“These individuals are raising standards, inspiring others and helping define the future of equine veterinary care. If you have a shining equine veterinary star in your midst, whether you are their colleague, mentor or mentee, we would love to receive your nomination.”

How to nominate

To put an individual forward for consideration, a seconder is needed and either the nominator or seconder must be a BEVA member.

Eligible nominees must:

·      Be a BEVA member

·      Have graduated within the past seven years

·      Be registered with the appropriate professional body, such as the RCVS

All nominations will be reviewed by a panel of experts comprising a BEVA Careers Committee representative, a senior equine vet, a non-equine veterinary professional and an external industry representative or client. Up to five finalists will be selected and invited for a friendly online chat with the judging panel.

The winner will be announced at the BEVA Congress on 9-12 September 2026 at the ICC Birmingham. They will receive a range of prizes including a trophy, a year’s free BEVA membership, a special Congress experience and bespoke career support.

Inaugural winner

Archie Moffatt was the first winner of BEVA’s One to Watch Award in 2025. Archie, who is a vet at Stable Close Equine Practice in Winchester, was one of four candidates shortlisted from all the nominations.

“It’s has been a real pleasure to be recognised through this award,” said Archie.

“I feel lucky to be part of such an inspiring profession and do really believe the future is very bright with all the young vets coming through. I wish the best of luck to all the candidates for this year.”
