The UK’s oldest horse charity is collaborating with a local county show as they both celebrate their 140thanniversaries.

The Horse Trust is 140 years old in 2026 while the Hertfordshire County Show is hosting the 140th edition of its event this weekend (Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 May).

The Hertfordshire County Show has been a strong supporter of The Horse Trust’s healthy horse weight management initiative #WeightoWin and as part of the 140th celebrations, The Horse Trust will play an active role at the Show.

The charity will present #WeighToWin awards in selected classes, engage with visitors, and share expert advice to help horse owners keep their animals fit and healthy.

While not a new partnership, the collaboration reflects a strong alignment in the organisations shared commitment to improving equine welfare and promoting responsible horse ownership within the showing world.

‘Wonderful opportunity’

“Celebrating 140 years alongside Herts County Show is a wonderful opportunity to highlight our shared history and continued commitment to horses,” said Jan Rogers, Director of Research and Policy at The Horse Trust.

“Events like this allow us to connect directly with owners and promote healthier futures for horses everywhere.”

The Hertfordshire County Show celebrates country living, food and farming across the county and features pony racing, flyball and sheep dog displays alongside vintage tractor exhibitions, live music and cookery demonstrations.

“We are proud to celebrate this milestone alongside The Horse Trust, an organisation that shares our passion for promoting the highest standards of equine welfare,” said a representative from Herts County Show.

“Their work through initiatives like #WeighToWin plays an important role in educating and supporting the showing community, and we are delighted to welcome them as part of our 140th show.”
