The Tokyo Olympics kick off at the end of this week, and the dressage horses will be the first to compete in Japan’s Equestrian Park. Here’s what’s happening when:

Dressage

Friday 23 July: First horse inspection — 9.30am local time (1.30am GMT)

Saturday 24 July: Grand Prix team and individual qualifier (day one) — 5pm (9am GMT)

Sunday 25 July: Grand Prix team and individual qualifier (day two) — 5pm (9am GMT)

Tuesday 27 July: Grand Prix team Special — 5pm + medal ceremony (9am GMT)

Wednesday 28 July: Second horse inspection — 10.30am (2.30am GMT)

Wednesday 28 July: Individual Freestyle — 5.30pm + medal ceremony (9.30am GMT)

Eventing

Thursday 29 July: First horse inspection — 9.30am (1.30am GMT)

Friday 30 July: Eventing dressage sessions one and two — 8.30am and 5.30pm (00.30am and 9.30am GMT)

Saturday 31 July: Eventing dressage session three — 8.30am (00.30am GMT)

Sunday 1 August: Cross-country at Sea Forest cross-country course — 7.45am (11.45pm Saturday GMT)

Monday 2 August: Second horse inspection — 9.30am (1.30am GMT)

Monday 2 August: Eventing team jumping and individual qualifier — 5pm + medal ceremony (9am GMT)

Monday 2 August: Eventing individual jumping final — 8.45pm + medal ceremony (12.45pm GMT)

Showjumping

Saturday 31 July: First horse inspection — 5pm (9am GMT)

Tuesday 3 August: Jumping individual qualifier — 7pm (11am GMT)

Wednesday 4 August: Jumping individual final — 7pm + medal ceremony (11am GMT)

Thursday 5 August: Second horse inspection — 5pm (9am GMT)

Friday 6 August: Team qualifier — 7pm (11am GMT)

Saturday 7 August: Team final — 7pm + medal ceremony (11am GMT)

Paralympic dressage

Thursday 26 August: Individual test grades II, IV, V — 3pm + medal ceremonies (7am GMT)

Friday 27 August: Individual test grades I and III — 3pm + medal ceremonies (7am GMT)

Saturday 28 August: Team test to music — 5pm (9am GMT)

Sunday 29 August: Team test to music — 6pm + medal ceremony (10am GMT)

Monday 30 August: Individual Freestyle grades IV, V, III, II, I — 3pm + medal ceremonies (7am GMT)

About the Olympic venue

The majority of the equestrian events take place in the Equestrian Park, which is in Kamiyoga, Setagaya-ku. The eventing cross-country will take place at Sea Forest cross-country course, which is around 30km away in Uminomori, Koto-ku.
