Cambridge Vet School has thanked the thousands of supporters who backed its #SaveTheVetSchool campaign following the announcement that plans to close the school have been scrapped.
The #SaveTheVetSchool campaign was launched in December 2025 in response to uncertainty surrounding the future of the University of Cambridge Department of Veterinary Medicine and the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital (QVSH).
The campaign was created to highlight the importance of Cambridge Vet School to veterinary education, research, clinical excellence and One Health, while giving students, alumni, referring veterinary practices, pet owners and the wider public an opportunity to show their support.
In a statement to Your Horse, the school stated that the response to the campaign had been ‘truly remarkable’ and had received over 25,000 site submissions and interactions with the campaign website and over a million views on the social media posts. It received strong support from veterinary professionals, alumni and the wider community both across the UK and internationally.
Next steps
With its future secured, the school is now moving into the next phase, #CambridgeVetSchoolFuture, and is asking its supporters to sign up for regular updates which will include news, developments and events from across the Vet School community. Supporters can register for updates here.
“Your support has meant a great deal to the Vet School, and the response from you all has been powerful and clear. Because of you, we are now able to look ahead,” said Professor Mark Holmes, Head of Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge.
“We’re beginning to shape the next chapter, asking important questions about what the future of the Vet School looks like, and how we continue to grow and teach the next generations of Cambridge veterinary professionals.”
