A 21-year-old mare who spent two years in the care of a national animal charity has found ‘a best friend for life’ in her new home.
Autumn arrived at Blue Cross Rolleston in March 2024 following a change in her owner’s circumstances.
“As Autumn settled into life at the centre, her kind personality really began to shine through. She became a firm favourite on the yard as she was so easy to handle and a joy to be around,” said Mia Lincoln Shenton, Adoptions Coordinator at Blue Cross Rolleston.
“She later went to one of our wonderful foster homes, where she continued to thrive while we searched for her perfect match as a non-ridden companion. Then in March this year, we received a strong application that suited Autumn’s needs perfectly.”

‘An absolute blessing’
Autumn’s new home is with Tilly, a 17-year-old mare, and her owner Mea Littlejohns.
“Autumn is an absolute blessing. From the moment I heard about her, I knew she would be perfect for our family and an ideal companion,” said Mea.
“When I spoke to Blue Cross and learned more about her, it was clear how well she would match with my other horse. When she arrived, she exceeded all my expectations. Sometimes things just feel like fate, and that’s exactly what Autumn is for us.
“I had planned to introduce them slowly, but she came off the trailer completely relaxed, walked straight into her stable, and made herself at home. Within an hour of being turned out, they were grazing side by side and grooming each other over the fence.”

Immediate connection
“They’ve formed an incredible bond so quickly – it’s as if they’ve known each other their whole lives. Watching them together is truly special, and I know they’ll be best friends for life,” continued Mea.
“Blue Cross went above and beyond to help bring Autumn to us, and we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect rehoming.”
Mia added: “The whole team were delighted to see Autumn head off to her new home. She is such a sweet mare who truly deserves a loving environment where she can be pampered and cherished, and we’re confident she’s found exactly that. I wish Autumn and her new borrower all the very best and look forward to hearing how she gets on.”
