British Eventing (BE) has restructured the pathway to its popular grassroots championships – the NAF Five Star BE80 Championship at Bramham and the Voltaire Design BE90 and BE100 Championships at Badminton – for 2024 and beyond.

The main route to competing at these finals will now be through BE’s new Regional Championships, which will launch in 2023 to replace the Area Festivals.

Five Regional Championships will be held across the country, giving a wider geographical spread and more riders competing at BE80, BE90 and BE100 the chance to experience competing in a Championship environment.

These Regional Championships will not only provide the opportunity to be crowned Regional Champion, but also to pick up a prized ticket to ride at Bramham or Badminton.

The 2023 Regional Championships dates will be as follows:

  • Glamis Castle, Angus – 5-6 August
  • Port Eliot, Cornwall – 5-6 August
  • Frickley, South Yorkshire – 18-20 August
  • Chillington Hall, Staffordshire – 9-10 September
  • Little Downham, Cambridgeshire – 30 September – 1 October

To compete at a Regional Championship, you will need to achieve two double clears in your respective class during the qualifying period, which for the 2023 Regional Championships will be from 1 June 2022 until the date that entries close for the 2023 Championships.

The top 10% of finishers from the Regional Championship sections will all receive a qualification for Bramham (BE80) or Badminton (BE90 and BE100). Where numbers allow for the Championship Finals, a top up of numbers will be made from the respective Leagues – which can be found on the BE Stats Centre here.

In addition to the Regional Championships pathway, for riders competing at BE90 and BE100 there will also be opportunities to pick up a direct qualification for the National Championships.

There will be two opportunities to achieve a direct qualification – the top 10% of finishers at the 3DE at Bicton and the top 20% of finishers in the Scottish Championship at Blair will also qualify. These new pathways apply to the 2024 Championships onwards.

Visit the NAF Five Star BE80 Championship or the Voltaire Design BE90 and BE100 Championships pages for details of qualification for the 2023 Championships

More information on the new Regional Championships will be shared on the BE website in the near future.

Riders are reminded that restrictions will apply, which will be laid out in the 2023 BE Rulebook, which will be available to view ahead of the 2023 season.
