Equine charity The Horse Trust has received a donation from the Society of Equestrian Artists’ (SEA) Secret Postcards fundraiser, an annual initiative in which SEA members donate original postcard sized artworks to support UK equine charities.

Supporters of The Horse Trust bought 30 of the unique postcards for £50 each during events or online to raise £1,500 for the charity and support its work caring for rescued and retired horses.

“Thank you to the generous members of the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA), who donated postcard-sized paintings sold in aid of The Horse Trust,” said SEA chair Julie Barrett.

“Sale of the Secret Postcards raised £1,500, which was presented to the charity on 12th May. On the day of the presentation, SEA members enjoyed a workshop, tutored by Jenny Bell, where they painted from life at The Horse Trust in Princes Risborough.”

Real life workshop

To thank SEA for their kind donation, The Horse Trust invited 12 of their artists to a workshop at their base in the Chiltern Hills. The group spent the morning painting some of the charity’s residents including Burnaby, a retired Household Cavalry horse; Buster, a gentle ex-RDA horse from Crosby; and Aquaba, one of our oldest residents at 31 years old.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Society of Equestrian Artists for their generous support and the passion they bring to celebrating the beauty and individuality of our horses,” said Jeanette Allen, ceo of The Horse Trust.

“Their wonderful Secret Postcards fundraiser not only raised vital funds for our work but also helped shine a light on the lives of the animals in our care.

“It was a real joy to welcome the artists to our Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire – watching them paint our residents with such consideration and respect was truly special.

“We’re so pleased this partnership has begun with such warmth and creativity, and we look forward to seeing it grow.”
