Saving Abandoned Fly-Grazing Equines (SAFE) has been selected as Charity of the Year by equestrian specialist Harry Hall. SAFE was founded in 2014, by a small group of horse-loving volunteers. The charity aims to help horses and ponies who have been abandoned or neglected keeping them ‘SAFE’ and away from harm.

Money raised by Harry Hall in 2024 will allow the charity to continue to rescue horses and campaign for their welfare, making sure no horse is left abandoned.

“When SAFE first started, it was with the aim to help a local herd of abandoned, neglected horses,” said Alison, Trustee and Founder at SAFE. “Just a group of novice strangers who did not want to let this herd of horses suffer any longer. Sadly, that initial rescue opened our eyes to just how much cruelty and abandonment there is, and of course, we could not stop there.

“It has been a steep learning curve over the years. There have been many tears of frustration and loss but to see the horses we rescue recover and go on to live happy lives in their forever homes, makes it all worth it.

“For our small charity to grow from nothing to being able to not only be recognised alongside some major and very well-established and certainly worthy charities, but also go on to win the public vote is a dream come true. We are absolutely delighted and so grateful to Harry Hall and their followers and our own supporters for believing in us as a charity and giving us this wonderful opportunity to be their charity partner this year. Together we can do so much more.’’

Over the course of 2024, Harry Hall will support the charity by donating funds when anyone joins its One Club membership, takes out an insurance policy, or shops at HarryHall.com. The team will also donate unsold clothing, horse equipment, and supplements to SAFE and also double one month’s total donation value on two occasions throughout the year.

‘’We are excited to continue fundraising in 2024 for such a deserving charity that helps so many equines in need,” said Liz Hopper, Managing Director at Harry Hall. “Our love for horses extends far beyond our business, and we’re proud to be supporting another great cause this year – we can’t wait to get started with our fundraising efforts for SAFE.”

Voting for Harry Hall’s charity of the year 2024 was via the Harry Hall website, where users could choose from a shortlist of 10 charitable organisations. SAFE was determined to be the winner after receiving more than 16% of the total vote.

Harry Hall has raised more than £30,000 for equine charities and good causes over the past five years. Previous charity partners include Riding for the Disabled, Hope Pastures, World Horse Welfare, The Gambia Horse & Donkey Trust, Safe Haven for Donkeys in Holy Land, Brooke – Action for Working Horses and Donkeys, and Prince Fluffy Kareem.
