About Burghley

A large international entry is expected for Defender Burghley this year, as well as the very best Brits in the form of Harry Meade, Oliver Townend, Laura Collett, Ros Canter, Emily King and more.

The centre point as always is the famous cross-country course, which is being given a distinctly fresh look for 2025, with course-designer Derek di Grazia taking the track in a different direction for the first time in several years.

Other highlights are the acclaimed masterclasses on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September.

This year these will include the legendary Carl Hester, who will be working with event rider Tom McEwen to demonstrate movements of the CCI5* dressage test.

Bettina Hoy will also wow the crowds with a demo, while members of the British Europeans eventing squad will work their horses in the main arena after the day’s sport is over.

A new partnership with The Howden Way will showcase the British talent pathways for young horses and up-and-coming young riders, while the fantastically popular Shetland Pony Grand National will bring some thrills to the Saturday and Sunday of the event.

Burghley is renowned for its superb shopping and this year will be no different, with more than 500 carefully curated retailers offering everything from art, garden furniture, beautiful clothing and delicious food and drink.

Anyone wanting to enjoy the event in style can book into the Avebury Restaurant for breakfast and lunch before more shopping and viewing of the equestrian action.
