An equine charity has announced that it will hold a red carpet charity gala evening at Elstree Film Studios in Borehamwood on Saturday 15 November to raise funds for its life-saving work.
Remus Horse Sanctuary is inviting supporters to buy a ticket and attend the ‘dress to impress’ event which will feature live music, a casino, a charity auction and a raffle alongside a variety of themed food stations.
Headlining the evening’s entertainment will be The Looters, a 60s and 70s covers band who play soul, pop, rock’n’roll and R’n’B music.
Elstree Film Studios, which are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, are one of the most well-known filming sites in the UK and have been the location for the filming of Star Wars, The Crown, Strictly Come Dancing and The King’s Speech.
Glamorous location
“We’re incredibly excited to be hosting this year’s Gala at Elstree – a venue steeped in history and glamour,” said Sue Burton, founder of Remus Horse Sanctuary.
“It’s a celebration, yes – but more than that, it’s a lifeline. Every ticket sold and every donation made on the night will go directly towards helping us care for the animals who rely on us.”
Sue founded Remus Memorial Horse Sanctuary in 1983 following the plight of the horses on Rainham Marshes, where over 100 horses were left on the marshland. As the water inlets flooded, they became cut off resulting in 13 horses dying in the horrendous conditions.
The sanctuary, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2023 and relies entirely on public funds to operate, provides rehabilitation and lifetime care for more than 100 horses, ponies, donkeys, sheep, goats and cats in Essex.
