The foal, who has been named Daffy, was first spotted by walkers.

The walkers, who called the RSPCA for help, believe they saw the foal's mother fall off a cliff.

Will Galvin and Ann Lloyd Williams from the RSPCA arrived at the scene to find Daffy sheltering behind a tree.

They searched the area for Daffy's mother, but were unable to find any trace of her.

Will says: “Daffy is now in our care, where she will be kept a close eye on.

"It's so sad that she has lost her mum, but she’s now in a safe place where she'll be able receive the care she needs to grow stronger and recover from her ordeal.

“Many thanks go of course to the caller who reported the situation in the first place and we would urge members of the public who spot an animal in pain or distress to call the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999."
