A new mounting block has been added to a car park that is used by horse riders enjoying a popular hacking route in Cheshire.
The mounting block is located in Whitegate Station car park, where there is free horsebox parking for riders making use of The Whitegate Way, a six-mile route along an old railway line from Winsford to Cuddington.
The mounting block is the result of a collaboration between Mid Cheshire Bridleways Association (MCBA) and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC).
Funding for it came from the BHS Ride Out Fund and the MCBA, while the base was paid for by CWCC.
“We would like to thank Cheshire West and Chester Council for allowing and supporting the mounting block installation, and MCBA for all [its] hard work, of which this is just one strand,” said a spokesperson for BHS Ride Out UK.
“This is the cherry on top of the rather fabulous cake of this popular route!
“It shows just what can be achieved with communities workking together to make use of old infrastructure in the provision of safe, vehicle-free multi-user routes.”
About the route
The Whitegate Way is a popular route with horse riders in the North Winsford, South Northwich, Whitegate and Little Budworth areas of Cheshire.
It links them to Delaware Forest via the Oakmere Way, as well as the Delamere Loop, which is 22 miles long. This is a circular route, including the Whitegate Way. These routes are available to view online here.
It is a multi-user route that is accessible by several restricted byways and permissive routes, or by boxing up and parking in the car park.
There is also a community cafe and toilets in the nearby station buildings.
The car park’s postcode is CW7 2QE.
