The equestrian community will come together for a two-minute silence this weekend to remember Sarah Yorke, the event rider who tragically died following a fall at Aston-le-Walls Horse Trials on Friday (8 August).

British Eventing (BE) is asking its members and supporters, whether out competing or at home, to come together “in quiet reflection” at 12 noon on Saturday 16 August.

“As a community, we will take a moment this weekend to stand together in quiet reflection for Sarah,” said BE in a Facebook post.

“We ask members and supporters, whether attending an event or at home, to join us at 12 noon on Saturday 16th August in pausing for two minutes to remember her life and to send thoughts and prayers for her family and friends.”

Fatal fall

Sarah, 37, suffered a fatal fall at fence three while competing in the BE100 class.

Medical professionals attended immediately, but she could not be saved.

Her horse, MGH HERA, was assessed by the on-site vets, walked back to the stable, and is uninjured.

A full review of the incident will now be undertaken by British Eventing.

Chief executive Rosie Williams said: “On behalf of everyone at British Eventing, I would like to express our deepest condolences to Sarah’s family and friends. The thoughts of the entire eventing community are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

‘A committed event rider’

In today’s Facebook post, British Eventing described Sarah as “a committed and passionate event rider whose dedication to her horses and the sport was clear to all who knew her.

“Her warmth, determination, and love for eventing earned her the respect and friendship of many within the eventing community.

“The tragic loss has brought great sorrow to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and our heartfelt thoughts remain with her family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
