An oak tree has been planted at Bicton Arena in Devon in memory of event rider Georgie Campbell, who was tragically killed in a cross-country fall while competing at Bicton International Horse Trials in May last year.

The 2025 edition of the event got underway on Thursday and runs until tomorrow (Sunday 25 May). The West Country venue will host a range of classes, including the opening leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup.

As well as planting a tree near the cross-country track, Bicton will also include purple flowers in their floral displays and bouquets in recognition of Georgie’s purple and white cross-country colours.

“Earlier this week we planted a beautiful oak tree in the grounds at Bicton in memory of our eventing family member Georgie Campbell,” said a statement on Bicton Arena’s Facebook page.

“Georgie will always be in our hearts, and we’ll be holding her even closer in our thoughts next week.”

Course walk for Pony Club members

On Saturday, international event rider Tina Cook will host a Pony Club cross-country course walk with all money raised going directly to the Georgie Campbell Foundation, which has been created by a group of people who love and deeply miss Georgie.

The Foundation supports young event riders in establishing and running their eventing businesses by providing bursary support and mentoring in areas including financial management and attracting and retaining staff, owners and sponsors.

Event organisers Musketeer Event Management named the Georgie Campbell Foundation as their charity of the year for 2025.

Georgie jewellery

Jewellery brands Hiho Silver and Coco & Jane Loves have worked with the Georgie Campbell Foundation to launch a unique collection in memory of the late five-star event rider and to raise funds for the newly formed foundation.

The jewellery lines are inspired by the Georgie’s competition colours and her beloved dog, a Patterdale-cross called Twig.

Following customer requests and strong Christmas sales, Hiho Silver and Coco & Jane Loves introduced new items into the collections in time for Mars Badminton Horse Trials

The Hiho Silver Twig Collection boasted eight new pieces, including a Twig stock pin, pendant necklace and bracelet in a choice of sterling silver and 18ct gold vermeil, or sterling silver.

New additions to the Coco & Jane Loves collection included a freshwater pearl bracelet and necklace, as well as a freshwater pearl and zig-zag alloy anklet and phone charm.
