We are a little bit excited today as we’re bringing you the news of our exclusive, and Your Horse Live first, Grand Parade of some of our very favorite famous horses! The parade features the amazing show jumper BIG STAR who won individual gold in the 2016 Olympics with Nick Skelton, Carl Hester’s dressage star UTHOPIA*, another of Nic Skelton’s fab horses ARKO III, racehorse NEPTUNE COLLONGES and Her Majesty's own show horse BARBERS SHOP.
(*Uthopia's appearance is on Saturday only).
The parade will take place in the BETA Arena on both Saturday & Sunday, at 10.30am and 2:45pm.
Big Star is one of the best showjumping horses in the world, with numerous high profile wins including two Olympic Gold titles under the renowned rider, Nick Skelton. Nick himself has referred to Big Star as “the best horse I have ever ridden”. It is also notable that this exceptional stallion is passing his athleticism and incredible temperament onto his progeny, making him a top choice for any jumping mare.
‘Uti’ was purchased by Carl in 2005 on a trip to the Netherlands and over the next two years dominated Young Horse Classes in Britain. Under Carl’s training, he quickly moved up the grades to Grand Prix showing an outstanding temperament and work ethic . He won his Grand Prix debut in 2010, quickly establishing himself with regular 70%+ scores. Just a year later, he made his British team debut with Carl at the European Championships. They won the Grand Prix to give the team the best possible start. Strong performances from the team and Individual silver for Carl and Uti (Carl’s first ever individual medal), won a historic team gold. In the Freestyle, they further impressed for a second individual silver.
This was followed by the Team Gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games where Carl and Uti finished in the top five of the three tests to play a vital role in the historic medal. Team Bronze followed the next year at the European Championships in Denmark with Carl producing a ‘captain’s performance’ with Uti.
As a stallion, Uthopia’s character and outstanding ability makes him an obvious sire. His movement is totally natural and has an exceptional extended trot which has earned tens at Championship level. Such is his excellent temperament, Carl describes Uti as “safe enough for a grandmother to ride! Of all the horses Carl has ridden to Grand Prix, he rates Uti as the easiest of them all.
Uthopia will join us on Saturday only.
Nick Skelton’s much loved show jumper ridden . Retired to stud in 2009 he won over £1 million during his career winning numerous grands prix and being part of the GB teams.
2012 Grand National Winner Neptune Collonges won over Sunnyhillboy in the closest ever Grand National and was the first grey winner of the race for 62 years.
As a racehorse Barbers Shop was trained by Nicky Henderson and had a successful career which included winning more than £143,000 in prize money, a figure which no doubt would have been greater had his career not collided with the likes of Kauto Star and Denman. After retiring from horseracing, Barbers Shop was taken to Windsor to be assessed and initially retrained by Her Majesty’s stud groom Terry Pendry.
Terry realised that Barbers Shop beauty and gentle nature would probably suit showing. Barbers Shop was relocated to Essex, where he began his second career with Katie Jerram.
