Trike trip shortlisted for National Giving Awards

Following her marathon 1000k trike pedal across Europe Emma Massingale has been shortlisted for the 2019 National Giving Awards, in the ‘Most Creative Fundraising’ category.

Nominations were made by members of the public, with the final winners announced on Wednesday 24 July by Just Giving.  There will also be an official awards ceremony in London on the 22 October.

Emma said: “It was such a surprise when I heard that I was one of three nominated in my category. The nomination is a massive bonus, as One Smile a Mile was to raise money for my charity of the year Brooke and bring a little joy and quirkiness into many people’s lives.

“It certainly seemed to do the trick on both counts and as always, me and the animals had a great experience, which brought us even closer.”

Emma’s adventure involved pedalling a custom-made tricycle – in which she carried equine friends Percy and Stanley, plus her dog Inca – more than 1000k as they made their way back from Switzerland to the UK, following the River Rhine. Watch the highlights of the journey here.

Emma continued: “I chose Brooke in memory of all the animals that were beasts of burden throughout the ages, including the millions who lost their lives in wars.

“From the trip alone we banked £2000 and I still have a series of live UK demos starting in September, at which will be collecting yet more for this brilliant charity.”

Keith Williams, general manager UK and Ireland, JustGiving, said: “It’s fantastic to be celebrating our 10th anniversary of the JustGiving Awards this year, recognising the incredible work and dedication of some of the most inspiring fundraisers and charities.

“Whether that’s pushing themselves to complete enormous physical challenges, saving their own life with pioneering medical treatment or campaigning to make a positive difference to the world – these people prove that giving changes lives.”
