Prince Charles gets to grips with the new ultrasound system

His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales recently visited Pool House Equine Clinic to make the opening of new, purpose built facility in Fradley, near Lichfield.

The multimillion pound centre will provide advanced equine veterinary services in the midlands.

Senior partner Richard Stephenson comments: "It was a great honor and pleasure to have His Royal Highness visit our new premises and the staff enjoyed meeting him and showing him the wonderful facilities we now have. Pool House is a well known practice - we've been in existence for over 150 years and have developed a reputation as a specialist equine imaging centre with radiography, ultrasound and MRI capabilities. We now have more capacity so can treat more horses."

The staff at Pool House are particularly excited about their new Fujifilm Sonosite Edge 11 portable ultrasound system, which offers clear image and high portability. "The demands of equine practice mean that ultrasound is often needed in difficult situations, and we need a system that can cope with extreme temperatures, dust, straw, mud and, sometimes, being knocked," explains Richard. "Many pieces of kit used in veterinary care were originally intended for a human clinical environment, so they can't stand up to the rigors of the work. This ultrasound is specially designed for purpose and so we can use it with confidence knowing it is extremely robust."
