With British Team Chasing having just announced its dates for this spring in Wiltshire, Leicestershire, Worcestershire and Oxfordshire, leading up to the Skinner’s Pet Foods National Championships (15 April), there’s no better time to think of trying this equestrian sport.
If you enjoy cross-country or have that need for speed and adrenaline, then team chasing could just be for you. It’s actually an affordable discipline to take up with no complicated membership or horse registration to fill out. In fact, all you need apart from the horse of course and an ounce of bravery, is a current standard safety hat and body protector.
Each event starts with a novice optimum time class at a minimum of 80cm and will include a few hedges to jump. For the more experienced combinations, the intermediate class follows a longer route over more hedges. What’s even more fun about team chasing is the emphasis on team. So grab three friends and form a team.
