A horse that was found sinking into a muddy ditch has been rescued by firefighters in Cheshire.

Crews from Wilmslow and Billington - including an animal rescue unit - arrived at the scene yesterday to find the horse had fallen in the ditch, getting all four legs stuck in the process.

A vet was called to sedate the horse, allowing firefighters and the animal rescue team to work and get the animal free.

Despite being covered head to hoof in mud, the horse was checked over by the rescuers and walked off from the incident unharmed.
