Pippa Funnell and her horse Billy the Biz have completed the cross-country phase of the eventing competition at the Olympics.
The pair completed the course with 40.4 faults – 20 jumping faults and 20.4 time faults – giving them a total of 84.30, before they head into the show jumping tomorrow.
Both horse and rider had an exciting round, with a sticky moment at fence six, making the pair go over an alternative fence, but went on clear.
It was in the final stages of their round that Pippa and Billy the Biz picked up their jumping penalties. They had a run out at the final part of the water complex, adding 20 penalties to their score.
"I'm very proud of him,” said Pippa, “when I walked that last fence I thought it was really unlucky at that stage of the course; I know other great horses have done it, but when you see a lot of horses struggling, I was a little worried because he’s so special, but I'm delighted with him today. I’m just gutted for Yogi, the team and all the connections.”
Kitty King is the last of the British team to take on the cross-country course and is scheduled to start at 18.21pm BST.
