The Department for Transport (DfT) are supporting the British Horse Society’s (BHS) Dead Slow campaign by producing an informative film to show car drivers on how to overtake horses safely on the road.
“We know most drivers are kind and careful when they drive past horses and riders, but some aren’t. With help from the DfT, we will be able to reach millions more drivers, showing them exactly how to pass a horse on the road and save people’s and horses lives,” says Charities Director of Safety, Alan Hiscox.
Since the BHS launched its horse accident website five years ago, there’s been more than 2000 reports to the BHS of road incidents involving horses. The BHS launched its Dead Slow campaign in March and clips of the campaign’s video
which has been viewed 2.6 million times will feature in this new informative film.
“The Highway Code makes clear drivers must show reasonable consideration for other road users and can be prosecuted for putting horse riders in danger.”
