Recently the Your Horse team paid a vist to HEROS Horse Charity based at North Farm Stud in Oxfordshire. Here the team retrains and rehomes ex-racehorses for an appropriate life after racing. Here's what we loved about our visit:

"First and foremost the setting is amazing. HEROS is in such a beautiful place - if I was an ex-racehorse I know I'd love to live there!
"During our stay I got the opportunity to ride a couple of the retrained ex-racers (as you can see in the video below) and enjoyed a hack our across the amazing countryside surrounding Home Farm Stud.
"We were lucky enough to stay at Swallows Nestwhich is a self-catering guest house located in the heart of a 400-acre estate that is North Farm Stud. This beautiful house was our home for a couple of days and meant we were on-site for all of our lessons - we could see horses happily grazing from our bedroom windows and you can't get much better than that."
"While we rode North Farm Stud and HEROS horses you can take your own horse with you if you fancy a break at Swallows Nest - the stables are right outside the front door so if you're thinking of taking a break with your horse be sure to check out Swallows Nest."

"The trip to HEROS was quite simply amazing - a true equestrian dream. Driving down the drive towards the yard, passing fields of mares and foals, whilst ex-racehorses were being exercised along the road, you just knew you had arrived in a horse paradise.
"The HEROS team warmly welcomed us and after speaking to them and watching them work, what shone out was their true passion they had for their work and horses. Sue provided a thorough behind the scenes to the day to day working and training of the rehabilitation of ex-racehorses, showing the commitment, patience and skill the team have with these beautiful horses. The horses were so relaxed in the surroundings a real asset to their retraining.
"Staying at Swallows Nest made the experience even more special, being so close to the horses and being able to watch them work around us as we soaked in the whole experience. The house was so homely and inviting just like the HEROS team.
"HEROS is quite simply a unique place which offers ex-racehorses a second chance to be able to fulfil a new career in the most incredible setting. The trip was so memorable, one that I wont forget!"

"What a great two-day stay at HEROS. Our accommodation at the gorgeous Swallows Nest has a homely feel to it and had everything we needed for a relaxed night away.
"I rode two lovely horses, who were both very well-behaved. I had a flatwork lesson on four-year-old Patrick with HEROS instructor Sue Jannaway in the morning, followed by a hack out in the afternoon on the gorgeous Joseph. Great setting, horses and accommodation – what more could you want?"
