If you think riding around Burghley is just a pipe dream — think again. You can experience riding around the famous Lincolnshire turf on your horse by signing up for the 2018 SEIB Insurance Brokers Burghley Sponsored Ride.
The ride takes place on Sunday, 2 September 2018, the last day of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.
It means that while CCI4* horses contest the final showjumping phase, you’ll venture out on to the cross-country course where, just 24 hours earlier, many of the best horses and riders in the world tackled some of the sport’s toughest fences.
We’re taking Your Horse magazine’s national #hack1000miles campaign to Burghley too. Our editor, Aimi Clark, is looking forward to doing the ride.
“I love to hack and I’m very excited to have the chance to add a few more miles to my #hack1000miles tally somewhere as prestigious as Burghley,” says Aimi.
“I’m particularly looking forward to getting a riding selfie in front of the house and a photo of me and my horse in the Trout Hatchery — not somewhere I ever imagined we’d be!”
As well as splashing through the Trout Hatchery, you’ll get up close and personal with notorious fences like the Dairy Mound and Rolex Combination.
The ride is 12km in total, taking in tracks and paths around the Burghley Estate, many of which you’ve probably never seen before.
Sponsorship money will go to World Horse Welfare, Bransby Horses, British Horse Society, Air Ambulance and The Gurkha Welfare Trust.
The full 100% of proceeds goes to the charities and last year £20,000 was raised. So, not only will you be having fun on your horse and ticking a major goal off your bucket list, you’ll be doing it all for a worthy cause too.
SEIB’s marketing manager Nicolina MacKenzie says: “Our event sponsorship at SEIB is aimed at helping riders have new and exciting experiences with their four-legged friends.
“The SEIB Burghley Sponsored Ride is one of our favourite events as it combines a great experience for participants with raising much needed funds for charity.”
There is also a sponsored run on the same day, so it's a great day out for your non-horsey friends too!
Entries for the ride are open now.
