Kick off 2018 with a parade, dressage clinic or even a competition.

Here are the best events to beat the post-Christmas blues with. 

The London New Year's Day Parade

WHEN: 1 January
WHERE: Piccadilly Circus, London
COST: Free

Ditch the sofa for a day out in the capital and get your horse fix with the New Year's Day Parade in London. The event is made up of unpaid horsey-mad volunteers, ranging in age from five to 70. With entertainment, costumes and plenty of colour, a team of 60 horses will take to the streets dressed to impress. The parade features side-saddle riders and horse and carriage combinations dressed as jesters, clowns and mime artists.

Oliver Townend clinic

WHEN: 21 January
WHERE: Alnwick Ford Equestrian Centre, Northumberland
COST: £75

Oliver Townend will be tackling show jumping at all levels for this hour and a quarter long session. Everyone is welcome to join and riders will be split into groups based on their abilities. There may also be the chance for riders to work on their cross-country towards the end.
