Follow horse trainer Jason Webb’s tips on how to tackle your horse’s impatience. Here, he offers advice on how to improve the behaviour of a horse who paws the ground and bangs her stable door.

Jason says:

The best thing to do in this case is to change your horse’s routine.

Try this

  1. Bring her out of the stable and tie her up.
  2. Once she’s secure, place her feed in the stable, making sure she can see you do this.
  3. Go back out to your horse and if she’s getting restless, stand with her until she calms down.

Once your horse is standing still and relaxed, pick up her feed from the stable and feed it to her tied up. Eventually you’ll be able to feed her in the stable, but she must always stand where you ask her to before she can have her feed.
