Rescue pony gives bride and groom fairytale wedding

RSPCA rescue pony Ciscoe made a bride and groom’s wedding an unforgettable fairytale.

When bridegroom Ashley Coughtrey was waiting at the ceremony for his bride JJ to arrive, he had no idea it was plucky little rescue pony Ciscoe who was pulling a fairytale carriage.

Ciscoe, an RSPCA rescue pony, not only proudly trotted to the doors of Hatfield Hall with bride JJ, he took the happily wedded couple for their first ride as bride and groom around the grounds.

Despite his fairytale ending, Ciscoe didn't have the best start in life and was rescued by the RSPCA in 2007, after he was found emaciated and neglected in a field in Enfield.

He was rehabilitated at RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre in Potters Bar and found his forever home with JJ's friends, Paula and her daughter Demi, the following year.

The 13.2hh skewbald was backed by Demi, and the pair went on to enjoy competitions, sponsored rides and hacking. Paula and Demi then decided to see how Ciscoe enjoyed driving a carriage, and soon enough, the plucky little pony had got the knack of driving.

Bride JJ  began riding Cisco as a favour to Paula and Demi. JJ had owned her own horses previously but sadly gave them up due to lack of time. Ciscoe filled the gap in her life that giving up her own horses had left.

JJ said: “It was so special to have Ciscoe, who I had ridden for several years, there on the most special day of my life. He was such a star, so well behaved. He is so stunning, you’d never know he had such a rough start in life.”

Paula said: “Ciscoe is now 11-years old, but he’s always been a golden boy. He does everything, he’s completely chilled out, and he’s perfect for children. He’ll also really go when you ask him too, he’s just an excellent all-round pony. He definitely knows if he has a novice on his back, and never puts a foot wrong.

“Even when Demi outgrew riding him, we knew we couldn't ever let him go to anyone else, so we have a young girl come to ride him now too, and he’s taking her to all sort of competitions. His shaky start hasn’t affected him one bit.

"I hope we’ve given him the life he truly deserves, he’s done such a lot. From meeting the world famous Horse Whisperer, Monty Roberts, to driving us down to our village pub at weekends, Ciscoe’s done it all!”

Ciscoe shares a yard in Flamstead, Hertfordshire with 39 year-old pony Jake, 15 year-old Arab cross Makita, and 2 year-old irish sports horse Betty.
