HorseWorld said a sad goodbye to retired police horse Beaufort last week, who has sadly put to sleep after suffering from long-term foot problems.
Beaufort - a 17.2hh ex-police horse - first arrived at HorseWorld in June 2014, having worked as an Avon & Somerset Police horse.
He quickly settled into his new life at the rescue centre and would help out with the training of inexperienced horses. He was often seen accompanying horses on the roads, providing reassurance and a calming influence.
More recently, Beaufort had been fully retired and was enjoying a peaceful and relaxed life out in the fields.
Speaking after Beaufort's passing, HorseWorld's Equine Yard Manager, Sarah Hollister said: "On Monday 13th March, we have to say goodbye to our beloved Beaufort.
"He has had ongoing foot problems for some time and despite the very best veterinary care, we were no longer able to keep him pain free.
"Beaufort was a gentle giant and will be greatly missed by stand, volunteers and visitors."
