The Derby, which takes place this year from Friday 22nd to Monday 25th September, is a multi-day challenge ride where you can take your own horse or hire a local horse for the event.

Riders tackle around 50 miles in total in over two days of riding, with three nights spent at either the five-star Bovey Castle hotel or in a specially constructed luxury camp and horse station in the heart of the moor.

The route gives riders the opportunity to admire all of Dartmoor's natural wonders including wild ponies, moorland cattle, stone circles and wild moorland. Riders needs to be confident at all paces over varied terrain.

There are 45 places available on the derby, riding in teams of up to 10 with mounted guides, ground support crews and full veterinary, medical and farrier support.

The British Horse Society are partnering the event, and receive a portion of each entry. Last year, the Derby raised almost £2000 for the BHS.

Prices start from £1,350 for a rider bringing their own horse and sharing a three-person luxury yurt.
