Following their success at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the French still seem to be on a roll as they’ve now won their first FEI Nations Cup™ Eventing leg this season at Vairano in Italy.
The competition which is over a new CIC3* course designed by Mark Phillips saw 24 clear rounds from 29 starters. Although, Great Britain are the current series leaders, they've seen their lead close to just 15 points over Germany as this was the first leg that they didn't contest.
In terms of individuals, having missed out on a place at the Olympics, Germany’s Andreas Ostholt, had some compensation when leading throughout and taking individual honours at Vairano on the 16-year-old mare Pennsylvania 28. Although fastest round the cross country, French team member Francois Lemire took second place on Ogustin du Terroir and Pietro Sandei, riding Rubis de Prere, was third for Italy, who also finished third in the team section.
