William Fox-Pitt has completed the Olympic cross-country course on his horse, Chilli Morning.
The pair finished with 30.40 penalties – 20 jumping penalties and 10.4 time penalties – adding to their dressage score of 37.00 to give a final score of 67.40, before the show jumping phase tomorrow.
Fox-Pitt and Chilli Morning were going well until they got to fence 20B, where the horse ran past the jump and picked up 20 penalties.
After finishing first in the dressage, William Fox-Pitt has currently dropped down to fifth position in the individual stakes of the competition.
William said: “I had a very good run, it’s just annoying that I went past that third element. It was really unfortunate and my fault entirely. I went too quickly for him and there was no way I could turn so he didn’t do anything wrong. He is a lovely horse and to be riding him around the course is a luxury so I’m sad I have wasted it.”
Pippa Funnell and Kitty King are still yet to ride the course.
Australia’s Christopher Burton is currently in the lead with 37.60 points.
