The British Young Riders Dressage Scheme (BYRDS) Home International saw three teams and two individual young riders from Wales travel to Sparsholt College in Hampshire (30 – 31 July) to compete.
At the event Catrin Stewart and BD Wales BYRDS Ambassador Briony Cutler were crowned Champions, while Team Ramsey, consisting of Catrin Stewart, Charlie Hunt, Elizabeth Thomas and Mia Ketcher, finished in sixth place overall.
Each competitor had to ride twice over the two days with collected percentage scores, deciding the overall result at their specific level of either Novice, Elementary or Medium.
In the Novice section Catrin Stewart (Yarty Welsh Jack) was the Fledgling Champion, after she won both her tests, having scored 65.714% and 68.269%. While Briony Cutler (Hilkens Charismatic), became Young Rider Novice Champion having taken second place in her first test with 66.964% and then took the overall lead after winning her second test with an impressive 71.538%.
Three riders finished in second place in their respective tests; Mia Ketcher (Corlannau High Flyer) were runners-up in the Pony Medium after scoring 68.162% and 67.162%, in the FEI Pony class Sophie Williams (Ferrari) scored 70.192% and 71.154% and in the FEI Junior class Megan Roberts (Dreamgirl SC), scored 67.568% and 66.081%.
Elizabeth Thomas, current BYRDS B Squad Champion, was placed third overall in the Young Rider Elementary (Cynfelin Rockstar) having achieved 68.309% and 71.172%.
“Another great achievement for Team Wales! Our BYRDS riders are now working towards the Under 25s Finals at Sheepgate [Lincolnshire] at the end of August,” says BD Wales Regional Development Officer Vanessa Archer.
