Michael Jung has announced that he will no longer be taking his horse FischerTakinou to the Olympic Games in Rio because the horse is suffering from an infection.
Instead, the German event rider will take his horse La Biosthetique-Sam, who he competed and won individual and team titles with at the London Olympics in 2012. The duo also won Badminton and the Rolex Grand Slam together earlier this year.
Writing on his Facebook page yesterday, Jung said that he and his team had decided that FischerTakinou would not recuperate in time to cope with travelling and competing and have pulled the horse out of the event.
Michael said that it was “the worst news of the year”, but seemed positive that FischerTakinou would make a full recovery.
Concluding in his statement, Michael said: “The important thing is that Taki recovers quickly and Sam can count on your fingers being crossed.”
