Meet some mini stars at Your Horse Live

Your Horse Live is just around the corner and preparing to make a special appearance are Edam, Mozzarella, Marmite and Muesli but don’t be fooled - this lot won’t fit in your shopping trolley!

Taking pride of place in the Redwings Rescue Village Edam, Mozzarella, Marmite and Muesli are four special ponies that are sure to be a hit with the crowd. Sadly, though they’ve not had the easiest of rides.

Super-cute 13-year-old miniature Shetlands Edam and Mozarella arrived at Redwings in June 2004 as part of a group of horses and ponies rescued from the Lincolnshire commons

“Both were suffering from a lack of basic care, overgrown feet and high worm burdens, but thankfully due to the care of Redwings’ veterinary and farm teams they made fantastic recoveries,” says Stacey Harvey of Redwings.

Marmite and Muesli featured at Your Horse Live two years ago, and they were such at hit that the team at Redwings think it’s high time they had another trip out!

“These gorgeous cobs will soon be beginning their training to become ridden ponies, after which the charity hopes to find them loving forever homes as Redwings Guardian ponies,” says Stacey.

Six-year-old Marmite and five-year-old Muesli were among 23 ponies that came to Redwings after a large-scale rescue in Northern Ireland in 2011. More than 60 horses were found suffering in the most horrific conditions on a County Antrim farm; they were emaciated, suffering from contagious diseases such as strangles, and living among the carcasses of nine dead horses.

“Fortunately they were all rescued, their owners prosecuted and many of the group now live happily at Redwings Oxhill Visitor Centre, while others have already found loving homes through Redwings’ Guardianship Scheme.”
