Pony Club D Test

Hi, I am taking a Pony Club D test soon, I was wondering if anyone has any tips or advise for me on the day or before. The test involes horse care and riding and a written test I think.

Thanks.

Hi, its a long time since I done my D test, but I doubt its changed much. I had to name main points of the horse (wither, poll, croup etc) name parts of saddle and bridle, mount and dismount, walk and trot, lead a horse correctly, check tack before mounting, basic care of pony all year round, being polite to other road users. I know its easy to say, but try not to get nervous, the test doesn't take long, and if you been riding 4 years, should be no problem for you, your pony club wouldn't have put you through for it, if they thought you weren't capable, enjoy your day, have fun and look forward to doing your C test next, your pony club should tell you what to wear, but when I done mine it was just clean jods and boots (no shirt and tie), GOOD LUCK, LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GET ON, appycob

Re: Pony Club D Test

Honestly, dont' worry about it. The 'D' test was really easy and like appycob said, your PC wouldn't have put you forward to do it if they didn't think you were capable. I can't quite remember everything as I did it when I was about 11 or 12 and I'm 25 now, lol! I don't think you had to canter though. I don't think there was a written element to it when I did mine. Then you'll get your certificate and a yellow badge, yay! Once you've passed that you can then aim for your 'D+' badge which is white. That wasn't that much different to the 'D' from what I can remember. You then go on to do your 'Riding and Road Safety Test' and again thats straight forward enough. The next hurdle is for your 'C' test where you'll get a green badge, yay! And of course so on from there. Unless any of this has changed cos it was ages ago that I did mine, lol! In fact, it was so long ago that I can't remember much so I'm probably not that much help to you, lol! You will be fine though, it's a piece of cake! Let us know how you get on! x

Re: Pony Club D Test

right, I've found my folder full of my old ponyclub stuff (and I'm joining again, yay!) and there's a little card with all the stuff you need to do to pass your D test on it...

riding: mount and dismount, reasonably correct position, how to hold the reins, walk and trot on a quiet pony.

road sense: which side of theroad to ride on, simple green cross code, how to ride on the road, cross a road, and thank drivers.

horsemastership: basic needs of a pony, catching a  pony, leading, naming points of pony, naming points of tack

and that's basically it (:

I was kindof assessed for mine at camp when I was just 13, and even though Bramble managed to chuck me off four times (new camp record for the over 12s) they still gave me my D and D+, so really, you've got nothing to worry about (:

I have great news I passed the test. It was really easy, I've got Pony Club today and I think we're doing hoof care.
