Hi, I am an endurance rider. I have been riding the same horse, Artie, for about 2000 recorded endurance miles. When we first embarked on our endurance life, I rode him in a Shaaron Sarre western endurance saddle. It sure is a highly regarded saddle in the endurance world. This saddle sored him up under the cantel. So, we moved on to a Wintec Pro endurance...ok, not such a highly regarded saddle, but a different style all together so worth a try, no? He was sore at the withers...poor boy. Ok, moving onward...now, for a nice little all purpose Albion, a very nice saddle, my favorite for sure. Again sore at the withers and now also under the cantle. I would add, all saddles were used with appropriate saddle pads. I was then introduced into the world of treeless saddles. After much time researching different treeless saddles, I decided on a Torsion. I have the Trekker model. Since day one, Artie no longer has a sore back at all. He strides out like a happy horse. I did try one more type of saddle on him last year. It was an RL Watson flex panel. I again purchased the appropriate pad and again, he was sored. I am back in my Torsion Trekker now. His back is happy and so am I. We are treeless from now on. I do believe there is a difference for some horses when it comes to treed VS treeless saddles, and this story is proof to that. Thank you, Ericka in Washoe Valley Nevada, USA
