With the event looming I booked in for another jump lesson with Chris B in-between his trips to Germany to train the German Eventing team. This was probably one of the best lessons ever, everything Chris said made sense and we improved hugely and finished the lesson jumping around a tough course with some tricky lines with most of the fences at 1.10m. I was very please with Rupert and now very excited about the event. After wishing there would be more rain in May, Yorkshire certainly was living up to its reputation; with lots of heavy down pours leading to the event being cancelled. I then was disappointed to find I’d been balloted out my other event booked in July. It turn out in the end to be a good thing as Rupert managed to rip off a hind shoe along with part of his hoof, resulting in some time off! He somehow manage to lose quite a bit of fitness and put on a lot of weight in this time. With new shoes and now on a “bread and water” diet I started making plans for our August campaign. July was a very busy month for the YRC with lots of campers keeping me very busy throughout the days making it hard to fit in enough time for Rupert. When he had a bit of time off it gave me a chance to get away from the yard and check out Harrogate. If you ever go into Harrogate town centre I can recommend Betty Tea Rooms for the best tea, cream cakes and ice cream you have ever tasted. By the end of July it wasn’t just Rupert who needed to get in shape of the August events!
