Use The Net To Bag Yourself A New Horsey Pal!

Redwings Horse Sanctuary has brought its popular adoption scheme up to date with a cool new look and a brand new online option with extras for people who love being on the net.

The Redwings adoption scheme is a fantastic way to help the Sanctuary’s 1100 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules. Adopters can choose from more than 20 special equines – ranging from tiny cheeky Miniature Shetland Wensley to pretty donkey Felicity to towering 18.1hh Shire Victor – and in return they get a new-look Nosebag Gift Pack which includes an adoption certificate to show off, a letter from their new pal, an A5 photo for the mantelpiece or bedroom and details of when and how to visit them! Adopters receive a special update on their new friend’s birthday (with an invite to their party of course) plus news and updates from Redwings throughout the year.

But brand new this year is also the option of having everything electronically online – great for horse lovers who enjoy using the Internet but also a good choice if you want to help the environment plus increase the amount of money that goes straight to the equines. Adopting online means that Redwings save the cost of printing and postage so more of the adoption donation goes straight to the care of the rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in the charity’s ownership.

Adopters choosing the online option will get their certificate, photos and visiting information online and will also be able to read their adopted equine’s regular blog, download extra photos and even watch videos! They will be able to access their adopted equine’s exclusive ‘online paddock’ as much as they wish to enjoy a virtual pat and catch up to keep them going between visits! Existing adopters will have the chance to change to online at renewal, if they wish.

The cost per year per equine is just £12.50 a year, amounting to little over £1 a month. Adopters have the choice of choosing a type of horse or pony that is special to them, or they may be moved by a particular pony’s story. Many have been rescued from terrible circumstances such as friendly Welsh pony Rhadlon who was locked in a stable for four years or Oliver Twist, left unwanted at a horse sale because of his twisted muzzle. There are some lovely donkeys to choose from too, including gentle Louie who was rescued from neglect and cheeky Denise who was hand reared by the Redwings vet team and thinks she’s a human!

Adoptions are a brilliant way for people to help us, explains Chief Executive Lynn Cutress: “Whether you don’t have the space or time for a pony of your own, or you just like to support the work of Redwings, adoptions are really popular and fun. Often people buy adoptions as gifts for birthdays or Christmas, which is a lovely idea especially for children. We don’t mind if people adopt by post or adopt online, the choice is theirs, but we hope we’ve now made it even easier for people to help us help horses. We think the online blogs and extra fun in the ‘online paddock’ will make adoptions good fun in particular for children, and parents will know that our website is an informative, fun and safe place to be.”
