Leading wood recycling firm R Plevin & Sons has strengthened its position as a market leader in horse bedding after securing a deal as the exclusive supplier to several prestigious equestrian competitions.

The company, behind the Woodpecker and Snowflake brands, will supply to top international competitions taking place over the next six months.

With two of the events considered to be the country’s largest and fastest growing international equestrian competitions featuring top class riders and horses in preparation for the 2012 London Olympics – the deal is a coup for Plevin.

Plevin will supply its Woodpecker bedding to the SPC Burnham Market International, a three day event in April with more than 700 horses and the Subaru Houghton International, a key fixture in the eventing calendar in May, running over five days with more than 550 horses competing.

Woodpecker equestrian bedding produced by Plevin is highly prized because it is soft and dust-free, providing extra comfort for the horses. Customers within the bedding sector include major supermarkets and large-scale pet wholesalers and some of the UK’s largest agricultural outlets.

Di Wass, event organiser at Musketeer Event Management, said: “We are delighted to have a local company, Plevin, supplying bedding at our events in 2012.  The calibre of the horses at our competitions means that everything has to be of the highest quality, and we believe Plevin fits with our values.”

Plevin group sales manager Colin Smith (pictured) said: “ Our equestrian bedding products are well established and recognised throughout the industry and we are thrilled that Woodpecker will be used at such prestigious, high-profile events.”

Family-owned Plevin, which employs 150 people across six sites, manufactures a range of wood-based products from virgin and waste wood materials.

Through its Snowflake brand, Plevin sponsors Britain's top show jumper and London 2012 Olympics hopeful Ben Maher. It also recently announced a sponsorship deal to supply Woodpecker equestrian bedding to three-day eventer and fellow Olympics hopeful Matthew Wright.
