The Spanish Riding School of Vienna has cancelled performances for the coming weekend because of an outbreak of stable cough.
The elegant white Lipizzaner stallions usually perform to capacity crowds – but 30 of the school’s 73 horses have developed a cough over the past few weeks.
Chief Financial Officer Erwin Klissenbauer said 20 of the horses were still ill, while another ten had recovered but needed to rest.
The school hopes to reopen for business in April when the horses are back up to strength.
