If you’re a dressage enthusiast and fancy getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life we’ve got the perfect holiday for you!
Quinta do Archino in Portugal, run by D. Francisco de Bragança, offers various courses including combinations of dressage, combined dressage and hacking, intensive dressage and horse handling, in-hand work and lunge lessons – and riders of all levels, seeking the quest for lightness, are welcomed to Francisco’s classical riding school, 45 minutes north of Lisbon.
Francisco’s five-day courses offer five days riding (riding twice a day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (am only), Thursday and Friday) plus six nights full board accommodation. You can arrive on Sunday around 6pm, just in time for dinner 8pm. Depart on the following Saturday morning after breakfast.
Francisco also holds six-day courses with his good friend, classical dressage rider and trainer, Sylvia Loch (www.classical-dressage.net) who you might have seen demonstrating at Your Horse Live last year.
Francisco has been breeding and training Lusitano horses for over 30 years. As a young man he trained with Mestres Nuno Oliveira and David Ribeiro Telles and he is passionate about conserving classical principles for the benefit of all horses and riders. Plus non-riders are welcome to watch your lessons and stay at Quinta do Archino for a different rate.
For prices and further information visit www.quintadoarchino.net - see below for accomodation details.
Your Horse deputy editor Imogen and gear editor Allison stayed with Francisco in 2010 – to see how they got on contact back issues for your copy of Your Horse issue 338 by calling 0845 6011356.
During your stay you’ll be made to feel completely at home at Quinta do Archino, Francisco’s family farm. Situated in the unspoilt peace and tranquility of Cork, Pine and Eucalyptus trees, gentle hills and rivers lined with bamboo it’s the perfect place to relax - an easy drive away from the coast, historic towns, vineyards, a shooting range and golf courses.
