In 2011 at just nine days old Oscar the foal was taken away from his mother before weaning and abandoned – thankfully a call to the Horse Rescue Fund in Beccles, Suffolk, saw him taken in but now the charity is asking for your help to ensure that little Oscar can go from strength to strength.
Oscar required immediate care when he arrived at the charity’s base. Being so vulnerable and at such an early age he hadn’t been getting the nutrients he needed from his mother.
He was quarantined, started on regular two hourly bottle feeds and thanks to a dedicated team of staff he was fed regularly throughout the day and night.
It wasn’t long before this regular routine paid off and Oscar’s health improved, gaining weight steadily and learning to trust people. Eventually, after much discussion, the staff decided to call him Oscar – or Ozzy to his friends.
The charity aims to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home equines found to be in need such as Oscar and this is just the start of his story. As he grows Oscar will receive the education he requires and when ready a suitable ‘loan’ home will be sought for him. For now, you can sponsor Oscar and aid the charity in its efforts to look after him.
All horses, donkeys and ponies at the Charity are protected for the rest their lives, but this lifelong commitment, along with the daily work, requires a huge amount of knowledgeable care and money.
Any donations receieved make a real difference to the life Oscar and other horses like him. Every penny is vital to help the chairty to continue its welfare work.
