Horse riders across the Wirral are being asked to contribute to a survey which could help to open a new bridleway and to bypass a busy stretch of road.
Ruth Such, access officer for the Wirral committee of the British Horse Society (BHS), is putting together proposals, which would offer riders in the area an alternative route to bypass the Barnston dip.
“We want to look at opening a new route which would go from Lower Thingwall Lane in Thingwall and bring you out on Station Road/Storeton Lane in Barnston, therefore missing out a very dangerous bit of road,” she said.
“We want to hear from riders who hack out in that area and for them to tell us how such a new route would benefit them and how it would link up with other routes they already use.
“By gathering numbers and hearing how such a new route would benefit horse riders in the area, we think we have got a good case to create a new bridleway so we are asking as many people as possible to get in touch. We need to know what other routes it would open up to riders, as well as the benefits this route would provide, the number of riders who would use it and how frequently it would be used.”
The BHS, the UK’s largest equestrian charity providing advice and guidance on horse welfare, is looking to increase and protect access to bridleways and educate riders and horse owners on all aspects of caring for horses.
