Retraining of Racehorses (RoR), British Horseracing’s official charity for the welfare of horses that have retired from racing, has launched its first RoR Heart Awards online at www.ror.org.uk
Open to owners of registered RoR ex-racehorses, these awards are a fun opportunity for riders to nominate their horses for being great to know and love, whether they’ve been re-trained for fun or the challenges of a new equestrian career.
Supported by Baileys Horse Feeds, there are four RoR Heart award categories:
• The RoR Biggest Heart Award will be given to the horse that has proved itself to have a good all-round temperament and shown great loyalty and affection.
• The RoR Heart Throb Award will be judged on the horse’s general grooming, condition and good looks.
• The RoR Heart Stopper Award will be awarded to the ex-racehorse who’s overcome great adversity, rising to the challenges of starting a new career.
• The RoR Healthy Heart Award is for the horse who’s shown itself fit enough in body and spirit to adapt across many equine disciplines.
Di Arbuthnot, Director of RoR Operations, says: “The 2011 RoR Heart Awards are a fun way to recognise the special bond, passion and great achievements of some of the thousands of ex-racehorses that are lovingly re-homed and re-trained each year.”
If you feel you and your horse have the passion to be a winner of an RoR Heart Award, entries can be made online to awards@ror.org.uk. Closing date for entries is June 1, 2011. All nominations will then go to a RoR judging panel and a shortlist of finalists decided for each award category. The final four winners will be decided by fans in an online poll vote at www.ror.org.uk and announced on Wednesday July 5, 2011. The winners will each receive a trophy and horse blanket, plus £100 worth of feed from Baileys Horse Feeds.
