Lucy Wiegersma is quietly confident about her chances of winning Badminton this year. She’ll be riding chestnut geldings Shaabrak and Woodfalls Inigo Jones at the event which will take place slightly earlier than usual this year over Easter weekend.

It will be Woodfall Inigo Jones’ second attempt at the infamously tricky cross country course - he was retired after a refusal in the middle third of the track. Shabraak though, has four Badminton runs under his belt and it’s this experience that Lucy thinks could help secure her first major four-star victory.

Riding Shaabrak Lucy came a close second at Badminton in 2008. Since then Shaabrak has been in and out of work due to injury but she now says he’s feeling better than ever.

Shaabrak’s 17-years old now and he’s not doesn’t much for the last couple of years so many people have written him off, but I believe he’s in the better shape than he’s ever been," Lucy says. "Last year’s winner, 15-year old Inonothing, proved Badminton is an event where the older, more experienced horse can really shine and I’m quietly excited that this year could be the one for us.”
