Working hunter classes for horses, ponies, M&Ms and cobs are being launched for the first time by Trailblazers.

The competitions are open to all in the first round and qualifiers have already started at some of the 60-plus approved centres.

The working hunter category will follow the usual Trailblazers format, with first rounds leading to qualification in the second and on to the championship final at Stoneleigh Park.

Each of the eight working hunter finals will be judged in Stoneleigh’s main arena during the Trailblazers Showing Championships over the weekend of 31 July/1 August 2010.

The new working hunter classes, part of Trailblazers’ national showing series sponsored by South Essex Insurance Brokers (SEIB), involve jumping a course of rustic style fences plus a flat showing element.

Maximum fence heights are stipulated for the jumping phase and there are two different height classes each for horses exceeding 148cm and ponies 148cm and under.

Working cobs and large and small M&Ms (mountain and moorland breeds) have dedicated classes, while riders 12 years and under can compete in their own nursery stakes.

“We’ve launched working hunter classes in response to popular demand,” said Norman Bargh, chairman of Trailblazers.

“Workers offer extra competition opportunities to show jumpers as well as dressage riders whose horses can jump and of course we expect huge interest from the showing crowd too.”
