This year’s Suffolk Show, May 28-29, promises an equine extravaganza with new equestrian displays and nearly 300 showing, show jumping and heavy horse classes.
The magnificent Equimax Metropolitan Police Activity Ride will take centre stage in the Show’s Grand Ring. This is the first time this prestigious display has ever performed at the Suffolk Show. The display features eight horses and riders whose exceptional riding skills will include over 80 jumps, fast cross overs and horses jumping through fire and a paper wall. What is even more remarkable is that all of the riders and horses are fully operational and after leaving the Show they will be back on the front line policing the Capital.
Another new display for 2008 is Jive Pony. This unique display features a dancing highland pony, world class vaulting, gymnastic skills and high speed equestrian stunts.
An Inter-Hunt relay takes place at the Show for the first time this year. Each team consists of four hunt subscribers who must negotiate a course of obstacles at speed. This is expected to be a highly competitive class with eight teams vying to be the first Suffolk Show Hunt champions.
The Suffolk Show is renowned for the variety of showing classes that take place over the two days and this year is no exception. There will be over 200 classes including mountain and moorlands, hunters, working hunters, skewbald and piebald, arabs, cobs, side saddle and thoroughbreds to name but a few. Also, very popular are the Hispanic and Iberian horse classes.
The Suffolk Show prides itself on promoting the majestic Suffolk Horse. Suffolk Horses and other heavy horse classes take place across the two days along with the Suffolk Horse Working Demonstration area where visitors can see how these horses worked the land in bygone days.
