Burghley Horse Trials is one of the most famous competitions in the equine calendar. You’ve probably imagined yourself dozens of times tackling the Leaf Pit
Drop or the Trout Hatchery but, in your heart, you know you’ve got no chance of ever
getting there. Well now you can!
The Your Horse Burghley Sponsored Ride is on Sunday September 7 – the final day of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in Stamford, Lincolnshire. You’ll get to ride round parts of the world-famous cross-country course – don’t worry there’s no jumping involved – but you’ll be able to get up close and personal with some
of those awesome fences. It’s your opportunity to get a bird’s eye view and a sense of what it takes to be a top eventer. In aid of the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund, The Bill Thomson Bursary Fund, The Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and the British Horse Society.
● All riders completing will receive a special Your Horse/Equimax sponsored rosette and additional gifts from sponsors. There are prizes for the three riders who raise the most money.
● For forms and further information send an SAE to Ian Scott, Belmesthorpe Grange, Newstead Lane, Stamford, Lincs PE9 4JJ or see below.
How do I get in and where do I go?
A couple of weeks before the ride, you’ll receive a special pass to a reserved parking area and clear directions to the correct gate. Once we receive your application, you’ll be sent an acceptance letter and sponsor form.
How is the ride organised?
Riders will be allocated ride times and will set off in groups over regular intervals. If you want to ride with friends, say so on the application form in the column provided. We’re strictly limited by the horse trials as to when we can ride and no riders will set off later than the last 1pm group. If you’re late on the day, we won’t be able to help,
so please be ready to ride at your allocated start time.
What do I wear?
Although you don’t need to wear competition gear, please make sure you and your horse are smartly turned out. You must wear a hat to EN 1384 or PAS015 standard, jodhpurs and riding boots. Children under 10 years of age must wear a body protector.
What support will be there?
We will provide paramedic cover and a vet and farrier on call service. The reserved area has water, refreshments, toilets, a photographer, secretaries’ station and a collecting ring for the start of the ride.
Who can take part?
The ride is open to all riders including children over five years of age (with lead rein if necessary). Children aged 16 and under, must be accompanied by an adult.
Sponsorship requirements?
A minimum sponsorship donation of £27 is required on application by each rider. This is non refundable unless in exceptional circumstances andwill go to this year’s charities (see circle). Please try to raise as much money as possible from friends, employers, family, clubs etc and bring this with you on the day. Once we’ve received
your application, we’ll send you a sponsorship form.
What about the weather?
The event will go ahead if at all possible. If very wet, the cross-country course will not be used, and instead, you’ll ride on a track alongside.
Can we go into the main Horse Trials?
Yes – you just need to pay a pedestrian entrance fee on the day.
