The Shire Horse of the Year Championship class is returning to HOYS this year after a seven-year absence.

Bradford-based Clayton Transport will be sponsoring the class at the Horse of the Year Show for the first time, and it promises to be a spectacular showcase for Britain’s Shire Horses.

The Championship will take place during Sunday Evening’s Gala performance at the event in October, which this year is at the Birmingham NEC’s new LG Arena.

The Clayton Transport Shire Horse of the Year Championship is widely regarded as one of the most prominent breed classes in the country and is affiliated to the Shire Horse Society.

Horses in this class will have successfully qualified at numerous county shows across the country to secure their coveted place in the Championship.

Last appearing in the HOYS line-up in 2001, the show is delighted by the return of the class.

Helena Pettit, of show organisers Grandstand Media, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Clayton Transport Shire Horse of the Year Championship back to HOYS for 2009.

“This class will play an important role in recognising and raising awareness of this special and celebrated breed. Clayton Transport is the ideal partner for the class with a true passion for the breed and a deep understanding of the prominence of the class.”
