August 2008 sees the launch of a new event to raise funds for Breast Cancer Campaign – the Bra Back Ride. Women of all ages are invited to mount up and gallop across Salisbury Plain for either 8 or 14 miles, in their bra!
Sports bra company, LessBounce.com, are behind the initiative, building on the success of Pink Aerobics which to date has raised over £300K for breast cancer charities. International three-day event rider, Julie Tew is supporting the Bra Back ride.
Julie explains: “I think most of us can reach out and touch a family member, friend, or acquaintance to find someone who has been either directly, or indirectly affected by breast cancer. Breast Cancer Campaign is the only charity that specialises in funding independent breast cancer research throughout the UK, and it is a charity that I am more than happy to endorse in any way I can.”
Director of Fundraising at Breast Cancer Campaign, Amanda Williams explained how important it was for women to be breast aware and take part in events like the bra back ride: “Every year almost 46,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the UK. We believe that research is the start of the solution, to build a brighter future for people with breast cancer. Supporters everywhere can do their bit and help raise vital funds by taking part in the Bra Back Ride 2008.”
This year’s event starts from Tilshead, between 10am and 1pm, on Sunday 17 August, in conjunction with Wiltshire Bridleways Sponsored Ride. Spaces are limited, so to book your place or for more information just call Rachel on 01980 671305 or email info@lessbounce.com.
STOP PRESS: Sadly Rachel’s horse passed away in May and she will be unable to ride in this event. If anyone has a reliable horse they would be happy for her to participate with she would love to hear from you.
