My Little Pony fans from around the world will converge on Sheffield in October to take part in PonyCon 2009.
The event in celebration of the cult 1980s toy takes place at the Sheffield Megacentre – with this year’s theme being ‘Ponies Around the World’.
Highlights of the Convention will include display and trade stalls, games and competitions for adults and children and a fancy dress fashion show.
There will also be the popular annual charity auction, where visitors can bid for a variety of My Little Pony items and celebrity-signed ponies from well known names such Professor Lord Robert Winston and TV stars like Burn Gorman and Eve Myles from ‘Torchwood’, and Philip Glenister, alias Gene Hunt, from ‘Life on Mars’ and ‘Ashes to Ashes’.
The charity for this year’s event will be Riding for the Disabled (RDA).
The Convention is supported by My Little Pony manufacturers Hasbro, which has created a special Collectors’ Exclusive pony that is not available in UK shops. It can be purchased at the event for £15, with profits to the RDA. Last year’s sale raised £5,000 for charity.
PonyCon Committee Chair Anna Britton summed up her anticipation of the event: “This year’s convention is going to be fantastic! - I think that My Little Pony fans of all ages will have a great time. I can’t wait for them to see and enjoy all the surprises we have in store for them!”
Ponycon 2009 takes place on Saturday October 24. Visit www.ukponycon.co.uk for details.
